Ewan and Ben visited London Book Fair to investigate how the publishing industry is innovating in digital publishing and how consumers’ demands are shifting with growing use of mobile devices as book readers. We interviewed representatives from several exhibitors and discuss our views on the increasing cross-over we see between ‘book’ and ‘app’ development:

Part 1: We discuss London Book Fair to investigate the future of digital publishing, its relationship with the mobile industry and (briefly) the whereabouts of Rafe Blandford.

Part 2: We visit the Nokia stand in the digital zone at London Book Fair to hear about Nokia Reading and how the firm views content distribution as an essential part of the new Lumia ecosystem.

Part 3: We meet Michael from Kobo to discuss the firm’s innovative eBook distribution platform and how they see integration of social features as key to their product’s development.

Part 4: We speak to Broma Patel – one of the organisers of London Book Fair – to discuss the new digital zone and hear how the show is adapting to include digital.

Part 5: We meet Tom from Amazon to hear how they’re developing their Kindle platform, especially for authors wishing to self-publish.

Part 6: We review the visit to London Book Fair and discuss the overlap between digital publishing platforms (like Amazon’s Kindle) and app developers. Can the two stay separate for long?

361 Degrees ‘regular programming’ (including Rafe) will be back later this month.
