49% of people don't know what mobile they have

Another good story by The Register…
A survey of 761 mobile phone users aged 15 and over, commissioned from Ipsos MORI by LogicaCMG, found that 49 per cent of mobile phone users didn’t know what model they use. A further nine per cent were unaware of the make.
Setting aside the rather serious side of this survey:
You know it really winds me up if I’ve connected with a good looking girl who is possible mate material and I incidentally ask her what phone she’s got — and wait while she fumbles about going ‘er, I think it’s, er… yes it’s a Motorola’.
Right, but what one? Are we talking gargantuan first-version 3G Motorola? Or stylish Razr? It makes a difference, you know.
Couldn’t bring her home to meet my mother if she’s sporting some ugly handset. And I certainly couldn’t be seen in public with her.
You see mobiles are now an extension of fashion. You’re judged upon the device(s) you choose to carry. It says a lot about you if you wear a 3 year old Ericsson handset strapped to your waist on a gun-holster style utility belt.

What would my friends say?
“Ewan used to be so cool until he met that girl with the 4 year old Nokia.”
