A look at Crickee - free mobile to mobile messaging

Crickee, offering free mobile to mobile messaging, is one of the most beautiful looking mobile applications I’ve ever come across.  I thought I’d check back after doing an initial blog on them in March.  On a whim, I decided to see if the service was ready for my standard phone, the Sony Ericsson W550i.

This is what the applet looks like on your phone:  Absolutely gorgeous!

So I had a look and bish, bash, bosh, it was available for download to my phone.  So I went along and got the applet.  Unfortunately the Sony Ericsson W550i has this ridiculously annoying problem of not allowing me to type in my mobile number (when registering for something like Crickee via the applet).  I can only type in 10 digits and not 11.  I encountered the same issue checking out tex2me.com‘s services so this is totally the handset, not the service.  (This must me mind numbingly annoying for mobile java developers.)

Alas I haven’t been able to try out the Crickee service yet — but I’ll get my hands on a better phone and try shortly.
