AHOY DEEPTHROAT. IT'S ME, EWAN
I’ve had four people contact me this week with shocking industry revelations — well, more gossipy, really, than anything else — but the trouble is, I know the people. They know me. They tell me and then I have to go ‘er, and is that publishable’ and they invariably write back saying ‘NFW’ (no-*******-way).
Bit of an arse. Because that prohibits me from getting the news out to you, dear reader.
So I’m creating an anonymous tips form. I’ve been sat thinking how I could possibly make it a truly anonymous form. By default, the web server records the IP address of all folk looking at the form. So theoretically, if you send me some wickedly good news and didn’t want to be identified, legal eagles could possibly look up server logs and try and piece things together. Not quite anonymous, eh?
I pondered on this and then realised I could setup an instance of Apache that doesn’t record any log file data at all — if I create a separate subdomain like ‘anonymous.smstextnews.com’. Thus no one – least of all me – has any way whatsoever of finding out who sent the tip.
I’m working on this.
However, it’s a bit of an arse knocking it all up, so I need you to think of some GOOD gossip, nothing that would put you in breach of any laws of course, that you can submit when I put the form up. Right?
