An update on the Motorola SLVR L7

So I am delighted with the SLVR L7 that I bought the other week.  Slim, sleek and light in the pocket.  I have been swapping various sims around in it and it’s been sat beautifully in my suit pocket for most of the week.

The real annoyance is that I suspect it’s firmware is well outta-date.  Mega outta-date.  It’s meant to sync without a hitch via Bluetooth with any Apple.  *THIS* particular SLVR doesn’t.  Really annoying.

It still locks up when you try and sync to it.  Various bulletin boards I’ve been on contain recommendations of flashing or updating the firmware.  Almost helpful: There is NOTHING on the motorola websites about it. Nothing I can find anyway.

SERIOUSLY WOUND UP

It’s very annoying being a half-user.  You know, I want to use their device properly.  My brother’s RAZR syncs perfectly well.  The L7 is listed as fully compatible with Apple’s iSync.  YET my model doesn’t work.  And there’s nowhere online to get the firmware to update it (if that is actually the solution).

When you click on the ‘software update’ page on the Motorola support site, that’s what you see there.  COMING SOON.  Almost… almost… helpful.

It’s a right arse to have to pick up the phone, it really is.  I really do not like having to phone their technical support people and use up their time when I’m fully capable of sorting out the issue myself if the tools and information was made available.

Someone, somewhere has made a killing selling companies like Motorola ‘frequently asked questions’ systems like this one that don’t actually help at all.  Type in ‘firmware’ as I have done quite a few times and there’s no results.  But if you’ve got some inane question about how to open the flip on the PEBL, they’ve got a whole section for you.  It’s not any good if you don’t actually update frequently asked questions.

Or at least regularly search the blogosphere to see what your customers are having trouble with.

Woe is me.

I’m off to pick up the phone and call’em…
