Apple builds temporary store at SXSW for iPad 2

Geez. Is there no end to the wonder that is Apple? 😉

MG Siegler over at TechCrunch has the details:

You see, we’ve known for months that it’s the first day of the SXSW conference in Austin, Texas. But last Wednesday, Apple announced it would also be the day that the iPad 2 officially goes on sale. The questions immediately began: do we keep our plans intact and head to Austin? Or do we hang back and wait in line for the iPad 2 at 5 PM? Luckily, Apple thought ahead.

They did think ahead. It’s very smart thinking. Very smart indeed.

Apple will be opening a temporary store in downtown Austin for two weeks beginning on yes, Friday, March 11. This will be in the Scarbrough Building on Congress Avenue, according to Statesman.com. Work began on the 5,000 square-foot space on Wednesday, and they’ll undoubtedly be working around the clock to get the space done in time.

Goodness me. Siegler comments that this is temporary store is likely to be one of the hottest venues of the event and I don’t doubt it. It’s going to be especially useful if you’ve forgotten your MacBook Air charger. Or if you want to pick up a cable or converter. Or, of course… if you want to be first with the iPad 2.

And given how many tech-heads will be wandering around SXSW, you can nigh-on guarantee that Apple will sell-out of iPad 2s easily. Easily. Once people see someone brandishing their ‘2’ — and furnished with the knowledge that there’s a ‘2’ waiting for them just blocks away — everyone will want one.

So if you’re heading to SXSW, pick up your iPad 2 there.

I wonder how many Apple will sell from that particular location? A lot.
