Apple's Phone destined for decline?

Why the Apple phone will fail, and fail badly | The Register
I enjoyed reading Bill Ray’s piece here in The Register about the Apple iPhone, spotted by Alex.
The hype is reaching fever-pitch, and the odds are still stacked that Apple will announce a device combining the functionality of an iPod and a mobile phone in January next year, but whether such a device will actually sell is another question.
It’s worth a read.
I particularly enjoyed Bill’s comment about some iPod fans discussing their love of the iPod packaging. Heh. I remember my brother buying an Apple laptop last year — half the excitement seemed to be generated from unpacking the device — which comes packed in a lovely foam sleeve with a nice Apple sticker on it.
The Apple phone will have some success — guaranteed. I know this, because when I’ve talked to a few Apple fans about the iPhone, there was no question that they will buy one. It wasn’t even an issue. Given the option, the four Apple fans I spoke to each confirmed they’d be buying one.
‘You’ll wait and see what it’s like?’ I ask.
‘No, I’ll be having one,’ says a quietly confident friend.
Gosh.
And I thought I was a bit of a mobile geek. Not long to wait until the news arrives, eh?
