Got an anonymous tip in this evening alerting me to the rather hot new device from answer service, AQA.

IssueBits Ltd, the company behind the AQA (Any Question Answered) text service, is launching a new concept in mobile phones: the ‘aFone’.

The aFone (the ‘a’ stands for ‘answer’) is a new type of super-intelligent device which can literally answer any question (just like the guide in Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy) whilst also doubling as a mobile phone.

Users can ask any question they want by just speaking the question or by writing it on the touch screen and they will get the correct answer instantly presented to them on the aFone’s screen.

The aFone is the result of 3 years research and development by the company’s 650 experts, led by ex-Symbian CEO Colly Myers. It can answer any question and solve any problem. In tests, the device has an apparent IQ of 247 and it has been tested with over 5 million questions and got every single one right.

“People want answers from their phone, not the internet,” commented Colly Myers. “The aFone creates intelligence within the phone by using the network to access the AQA service; ultimately improving the intelligence of aFone users. The first device of its type to ship anywhere in the world, the aFone provides the correct answer to any question.”

You can find the press release with the full specs (including a 4.2 megapixel camera — the whole device for just £1!) here.

Do bear in mind, whilst you’re reading, tomorrow’s date……
