Arun Sarin isn't the man for me
I saw Arun Sarin on the BBC 10 o’clock news last night wringing his hands and explaining that market conditions are difficult because they’ve got competition from all over the place — almost as though he was listing a series of excuses. Some business leaders instill confidence and authority — it’s just not working for me whenever I’ve seen him talking. I think he needs better personal PR.
Really, what I wanted to hear from him was a sound bite along the lines of:
We’re in an extremely strong position. Revenue’s up a few billion, we’ve got 121 million customers. Their average spend is X. We’re seeing increasing interest in 3g blah blah blah. We’re innovating strongly and while the market continues to hot up with the likes of Google, Yahoo, Skype as well as other fixed and mobile companies, I’m 100% confident we will see them off.
You know, something positive to listen to when you’re sat eating peanuts watching the news.
Meanwhile, 121 million customers ain’t bad. Where are they going with them though? I wonder, I wonder.
