AwayPhone.com cuts the cost of international calls for travellers
David posted a note about AwayPhone the other week and I made a note to check it out.
In a nice, clear site they explain:
AwayPhone is a mobile
telephony service for
international travellers. We provide a local SIM card and
clever voice routing technology
to save customers over 90% on
call charges when they’re abroad.
Neat.
I checked out the price plan to see what it would cost if I was in Switzerland calling the UK (remember when I ran up that 100 quid bill phoning Three support my mistake?)
Normal cost, they reckon, for a 10 minute phone call: Over 8 quid.
Using their service, it’ll cost you just over 3 quid. Fiver’s worth of saving.
Good stuff.
You are required to buy a £24.99 Swiss sim card from them in order to access these rates though.
The only issue I’ve got is that nowadays, any phone calls that involve the raking up of pounds a minute begins to look reaaaaaaaally expensive compared to the likes of using Skype or the like.
I know there’s quite a few other services launching shortly into this marketplace so it’ll be interesting to see how the industry reacts.
If you’re heading abroad shortly, AwayPhone is definitely worth a look.
