Biz Dev opportunity: An application for dual camera handsets

I picked up this enquiry from Paul Manze of Embedai on the MoMoLondon mailing list. I thought it might be interesting to anyone working in the mobile applications field:

We’re working with an Asian outfit that has developed an application which merges the image from a phone’s sub-camera with that of the main camera or any other background image.

It lets users take a background image (e.g. pyramids, surface of the moon, Madonna’s bedroom, etc.) and overlay their own image. The result is that you appear to have been photo’ed at the pyramids/moon/Madonna’s bedroom.

The “smarts” are in the blending algorithms that make the overlayed image look natural. Obviously the whole app runs on the handset so there is minimal user intervention to generate the image.

This app is very popular out in the far East where the motivation to use it appears simply to be the fun of being able to send friends a spontaneous picture of oneself in an unusual/amusing location.

We are working on several potential business models. If anyone is seriously interested, please drop me a line. We’re looking for integration opportunities with OEMs/ODMs, or, possibly, an after-market play.
