Blabnote readies voice activated social networking
Voice activated social networking? Yes! Blabnote‘s going to be hitting the web shortly and it promises to be an interesting diversion from the usual poking and status updates.
You ‘work’ Blabnote by simply phoning the service’s number and chatting. If you’d like to create a group of friends, you can do this by simply saying ‘Create Group called Ping Pong’. Then you can add people to the group by, no surprises here, saying ‘Add Ewan, Paul, Rob, Dom to Ping Pong’. Then, if you’d like to socially network (i.e. do a conference call) you ask the system to ‘Call Ping Pong’ and everyone is connected into a call. Interesting. That feature in itself could be extremely valuable. No one’s yet managed to revolutionise conference calling and bring it to the masses as yet.
You can post audio messages to your groups, listen to messages and so on.
The only problem with voice recognition systems is when you (“Cinema, Thurrock”) try and get the system to recognise what you want (“You asked for cinema listings in Bolton, is this correct?”) — and when it gets it wrong, it’s worse than useless to you.
If you’d like to find out more, give Jon a call — his number’s on the Blabnote site (and he’s got a good Stevie Wonder joke).
I’ll try it out when I can and see how it works!
