The UK launch of Blyk – the advertiser-supported free mobile phone service – has been delayed for several months, according to The Guardian.
The company was supposed to debut their offerings in the UK next month but in the article it says they have ‘gone back to the drawing board to make sure the service works properly’. In a blog entry last month I questioned the wisdom of launching a brand new and untried concept in mobile phone services in what is traditionally one of the quietest times of the year.
Blyk has signed up advertisers including Coca-Cola, L’Oréal and Buena Vista, and will be partnering with Yell to deliver local targetted advertising. In addition recruitment company Stepstone and mobile gaming experts I-play are also involved in the new service, which targets the lucrative 16-24 year old market.
