Parents could soon be texting teachers or following their children’s progress on a school website, following suggestions by the education secretary, Alan Johnson.
Mr Johnson is seeking to encourage greater involvement by parents in their children’s schooling as a way of boosting children’s achievement.

The plans will allow parents to keep a closer eye on their children’s progress and have any questions or concerns answered immediately, rather than wait for parents’ evening or yearly reports.

In an interview with the Times newspaper, Mr Johnson said a new strategy group, to be led by the schools minister, Jim Knight, was being set up to look at the best ways to implement new technology around the country.

He said it would “revolutionise” the way teachers communicate with parents. The proposals could include giving parents access to a secure website to receive the latest progress report, or enabling them to email or text teachers directly.

Yes. Yes. This is quite annoying yet exciting to read 😉 Whilst other countries are busy implementing text/email progress updates for parents it seems the British Government has setup a ‘strategy group’ to strategically think about strategic things related to doing so. I know Governments need to take their time though.

So, encouraging news. Just… I want to see it implemented faster, faster, quicker! QUICKER! 😀
