BT smashes it's 100k Text Aid fundraising target with a week to go

Remember I wrote about the Text Aid campaign earlier this month? Well they delivered. They’ve raised the cash. More than 100k in fact.

BT today announced that it has smashed its Text Aid fundraising target of £100,000. The company’s festive charity initiative has raised £108,490 for homelessness and housing charity Shelter and Focus Ireland in the first three weeks since it launched on 1st December. With 11 days to go until the campaign ends, BT is now calling on people to try to reach double the initial target pledged.

Every pound raised is earmarked for to help prevent homelessness among young people in the UK and Ireland, following news that one in seven British children are growing up homeless or in bad housing. And while most of us will be spending the festive season with our nearest and dearest, almost 130,000 children in England are estimated to have woken up homeless on Christmas Day this year.

Good work BT 😀

BT will donate 2p from every text message sent to or from a BT landline and all of its proceeds from the sale of the download straight to Shelter via the Text Aid campaign.

For more information, including a sample of the download track and details of the full range of text jingles available, visit www.bt.com/textaid

I contributed to this with a few landline texts, although I didn’t think to include this in my message:

And for a really festive text, why not add a jingle at no extra cost. All you need to do is compose a text as normal and then insert the jingle name at any point in your message – for example to play a sung version of Auld Lang Syne, insert *newyear#.
