Christians-only mobile operator launches in US

Faith-based wireless service provider launches:

FaithFone is a new mobile phone company that offers prepaid wireless services as well as faith-based content including Bible passages, daily devotionals, and faithtones.

(Via The Wireless Report.)

It looks very much like Liberty are providing the wireless service whilst FaithFone are just providing the front-end and the optional content.

There doesn’t appear to be a policy restricting usage to qualified Christians though. Although you’re charged an extra 1% on top of your bill which goes to your local church and another 1% of your related debit card purchases (they’re offering mobile banking). I’d sooner they just gave a 2% discount myself unless that 2% is coming out of the FaithFone margin.

I think they could have done a better job selling the content services on the site. There’s just a few bullet point paragraphs – e.g. ‘option to subscribe to Daily Devotionals’.

I wonder what the motivation here is. Will your average American Christian discontinue their existing service with, for example, T-Mobile (domain of Sidekick wielding celebrity heathens), to switch immediately over to FaithFone? I wonder.

Probably not. I could see this being extremely successful if it was pitched correctly and a little bit more encompassing in terms of keeping you connected to your local ministry and the like.
