Critical Path Extends Memova® Mobile Portfolio with Phone Back-Up

The 800lb Gorilla now staring directly at the mobile industry by the name of Critical Path, is creating a certain amount of waves. I forgot to ask Julian, top chap at Mobyko, when we talked earlier, about how he reacts to Critical Path’s Memova platform.

Critical Path, you see, have extended Memova by launching a phone address book and content backup facility. Address book backup is nothing new (see Zyb and Mobkyo, for example), but content backup… I’ll need to find out more about that.

Here’s the overview of the new Memova offering:

Critical Path, Inc., a leading provider of messaging software and services, today announced the launch of Phone Back-Up as the newest offering in its Memova® Mobile portfolio of mobility solutions. Phone Back-Up enables mobile operators to provide branded services protecting their subscribers’ contacts and content data.

Research conducted by Vanson Bourne on behalf of Critical Path identified that more than 60% of consumers invest multiple hours manually entering contact information on their mobile handset. Research also shows consumers are spending significant time using their handset to download and create personal content such as photos, music and videos. Today, personal contacts and content on the mobile handset would be irretrievable if their handset was lost or damaged. Existing solutions are considered to be either too complex or too limiting.

60%? I reckon that’s much higher… Almost everyone I know spends ages typing their details into their handsets. It frightens the hell out of me, the amount of people who don’t backup their contacts…
