Don't tell me no, T-Mobile

Every time I log in to any of my T-Mobile online accounts, I always click the flipping huge link that says: SEE IF YOU CAN GET AN UPGRADE.

Of course I can’t — I’m a geek — I know exactly where I am in my various contracts.  I know that their computer will do a quick look-up and see that I’m still in contract.

However, I’m thinking about getting a T-Mobile data card.  In fact I’m open to be upsold just about anything with T-Mobile at the moment.

I always click.  Without fail, I am greeted by:

You are not eligible for an upgrade yet.

Please come back in the last month of your contract.

So I’m not eligible for an upgrade, no.

BUT, by CLICKING on your link, Mr T-Mobile, I am revealing that I’m open to offers.  I’m hunting.  I’m browsing.  I’m potentially interested in throwing money at you.

I’d like to add a that data card to one of my accounts.  Don’t strictly need it.  I’ll keep that £25 x 12 months = £300 cash.

I reckon if T-Mobile made that link take you to a chatroom — powered by LivePerson or something like that — so I immediately had a human typing at me, T-Mobile would make a packet.   Because that person would say "oh, sorry Mr MacLeod, you can’t upgrade yet… however, would you be interested in [insert product offering here]".

Still, at least it’s a bit more advanced than Fresh Mobile’s mobile top-up site that doesn’t work.
