East Midlands Railway doesn't quite have WiFi yet

Well that’s annoying. I can confirm that East Midlands Railway — or Midland Main Line — or whatever it’s currently called (they appear to change names regularly) does NOT have wireless internet (free, or otherwise) on their trains.

I read on their website that they were, apparently, thinking about it. You only have to look at the amount of laptops in this carriage — I’ve counted 9 — to recognise that it’s a worthwhile feature.

YES everyone is getting USB modems because they’ve been commoditised by 3UK’s tenner-a-month deal. YES I’m posting this ‘live’ via a USB. BUT I would be using WiFi if available, because, at the moment, it’s just that bit faster and more resilient.

I wish they’d get off their arses and introduce it so that business people (and anyone else a bit bored and wanting to check out Facebook) can benefit from the service. And make it free, too.

On their website, there’s a top tip that reads:

We’re developing services for business travellers – and WiFi is part of our plans. Register for a business account to learn more.

Almost helpful. But not quite. WiFi is part of your plans, eh? Great to hear it… just… it is 2008 and you can get WiFi on a BUS, so why not on your fleet of trains? Come on!
