EU might do something about excessive roaming costs

The European Commission (EC) is to get tough with mobile operators over the high cost of roaming charges. Tomorrow, Viviane Reding, Information Society and Media Commissioner, is expected to publish her plans to cut roaming charges and give consumers a better deal.
I’ll be surprised and delighted if something actually happens here. Surely the mobile company lobbyists will be hard at work? 😉
In saying that, I quite like the Vodafone Passport arrangement. 75p per call one off fee and you are then billed on your standard network rates and can even use your inclusive minutes.
If you’re going to get screwed for using your phone in a different country, it’s nice to have it simple to understand just exactly how much it’s costing.
PS: Anyone going to think about Making Texting Cheaper?
