Even the Australian Police are pleading with folk to stop using Apple Maps on iOS6

I haven’t bothered paying much attention to the continuous stream of “Oh my god Apple Maps is shit” news stories that have been appearing almost every day since iOS6 launched.

You’ve read one, you’ve read them all.

The summary is simple: Apple delivered an utter dud.

I did however have to laugh when I saw the recent story about Australian Police effectively pleading with people not to use Apple Maps. Indeed, they went so far as to seriously explain that depending on Apple Maps could well be life threatening.

The BBC reports:

In a press release, Victoria police’s acting senior sergeant Sharon Darcy made her force’s concerns clear.

“Tests on the [Apple Maps] mapping system by police confirm the mapping systems lists Mildura in the middle of the Murray Sunset National Park, approximately 70km [45 miles] away from the actual location of Mildura,” she said.

“Police are extremely concerned as there is no water supply within the park and temperatures can reach as high as 46[C], making this a potentially life-threatening issue.”

The force advised travellers to use an alternative mapping service until the issues had been fixed.

Can things get ANY worse for Apple and their poxy Maps service?
