G Smart launches new WinCE phones

GIGABYTE DOESN’T make phones, but it has a sister company called G Smart that does. It has five advanced phones, a cool logo, and the muscle of Gigabyte to help it out.

The i120 and i128 have a couple of neat features all centered around sound recording. They can record and play back background sounds over the phone to simulate an environment. Think along the lines of “Honey, I am not at my mistress’ house, I am at a bar and can barely hear you over the cover band”.

Heh I like the background sound feature, could’ve got me out of all sorts of trouble in the past! They’ve also got some pretty cool media features:

The i300 loses the TV capabilities but allows MP3 and MPEG4 playback on the phone via the mini-SD card slot, a fair trade. It also adds a GPS receiver and ups Bluetooth to 2.0, the others only had 1.2. It has an Intel/Marvell PXA270 CPU running at 520 MHz. The i350 is the same thing without the MP3 and MPEG4 playback.

GSmart’s crown jewel is the t600, it adds digital TV to the mix, quite rare for a phone. It has the same CPU as the i3x0s and the same MP3 and MPEG4 as the i300. The t600 plays most DTV standards, the list is long and more can be enabled with updates. It also has TV-out capabilities so you can record the DTV broadcasts and dump them to a real screen later.

Neat! That’s a pic of the t600 by the way. Mmmm I like.. The only downside is they don’t seem to be available in the UK – yet. In fact the only European country that has a stockist list is Portugal – which is ironic considering the recent post about the country by our very own SMS Text News blogger Ben Harvey 🙂
