Get Buzzd on your radar; and get a free Tequila

I met the chaps from Buzzd at the hip’n’happening Accel Ventures CTIA party and thoroughly enjoyed their perspective on both the marketplace and what they were looking to do.

Buzzd is a location-based cityguide and social network based around the mobile. They just knocked up a super round of funding, funnily enough, not from Accel, but from Greycroft and Monitor Ventures.

You don’t need a GPS to use Buzzd. Instead you browse and search continuously updated event feeds, up-to-the-minute reviews and ratings (“the girls at ClubName are hot tonight”) from friends and other Buzzd members. There’s a strong element of social tagging, something I’m big, big into.

I really *want* to have this kind of service in London. In fact I remember standing in the middle of North Beach in San Francisco at 6pm a few weeks ago and wanting to know ‘what was going on’, what the best place for pizza was, and so on. I was reduced to searching Google and I wasn’t about to buy Timeout. I needed real time stuff. Turns out I really needed Buzzd 😉

They’ve got a load of event information from feeds from CitySearch, Flavorpill, TimeOut — they’re fine, you know, but I actually want context, context, context. 50 words on a nightclub or a restaurant is OK but it’s so 1920s. The kicker with Buzzd is that user-generated feedback (they’re calling them ‘buzzes’) are placed at the top of each listing. The concept being that you can browse the club night listing, for example, and get some contextual perspective from friends or other buzzd users.

Here’s a screenshot of a venue listing:

To get started with Buzzd, first let me ask you this: Fancy a free tequila? Good. You, er, do need to be in America for this, though. Buzzd have partnered with BuyYourFriendADrink.com (does what it says on the tin) so you can ‘text’ your friends a Hornitos Premium Tequila (Hornitos have joined as an Buzzd advertising partner).

Text ‘join’ to 96321 to register for Buzzd immediately, or knock up http://buzzd.com/m/ on your mobile browser OR at buzzd.com.

Every success to co-founders Nihal and Deepen!
