Google Talk integrates with Chikka to deliver IM via SMS

Star Trek addict Jepoy reports that Google Talk allows texting thus:

G-Talk users can now “Chikka-Talk” via Google Talk! This means that G-Talk users can now send SMS to Globe Telecoms, Smart Telecoms, and SUN Cellular mobile subscribers.

I couldn’t find anything about this specifically on the Google Talk blog though.

However I found this Chikka / Google Talk integration press release which goes some way to explaining things.

I haven’t ever come across Chikka before — it allows you to text from your PC and is available on selected operators in the Philippines, Guam, Japan, Saipan, Thailand and the USA. Looks pretty good!
