iPad 2 Reactions: Frederic Huet, MD of Greenwich Consulting
What do the team at Greenwich Consulting make of the iPad 2 announcement? Before we get to that, a bit of context: Greenwich are a simply massive and thoroughly well respected telecoms & media management consulting firm. They’re operational in over 30 countries in four continents. And their Managing Director is Frederic Huet.
Let’s hear from him now:
The success of tablet devices which we saw out in force at this year’s CES and Mobile World Congress dramatically illustrates the consumer appetite for multi-media content on the move – whether related to entertainment, leisure or business. The huge opportunity for tablet manufacturers is to successfully collaborate with content providers and publishers to ensure that both are delivering the right content at the right time to the consumer. Tablet devices have the potential to be a complete game changer for the industry, consumers and indeed businesses, but all players in the ecosystem need to work together to make the business model work for all involved.
Apple has sought to reinforce its leadership position as the de-facto tablet leader with the iPad2, with its compelling – but not game-changing – new features announced on Wednesday. And while no one would challenge the point that Apple has strong penetration in the tablet market, it is worth remembering, as pointed out by Financial Times’ chief executive, Marjorie Scardino earlier this week, that it is no longer the only fruit available in the tablet market. There is an increasing range of mobile connected devices now available to consumers and publishers can take advantage of this to secure the best deals for their business.
Indeed, indeed — good points well made. Thank you for taking the time, Frederic!
