Jajah worth a look
Not strictly about SMS this posting, more about VOIP than anything else. I got this primarily from the PhoneAddict blog (http://phoneaddict.blogspot.com/) and then had a look for some other opinions.
Jajah is billed by some as a Skype killer. Or David vs Goliath. Not sure about this — as I think they’re addressing a slightly different market. My mother would never use Skype in a month of Mondays. She only uses her iMac for buying stuff from Ebay and booking travel. Hardly ever uses email. I use her as a barometer of a service’s consumer readiness. She would potentially use Jajah if it was installed on a hotel booking website or the like.
Anyway, to use Jajah, you simply enter the other party’s phone number and press ‘call’ on your browser. Jajah then calls you both and connects you at extremely low rates using VOIP efficiencies. GBP0.001/min between two UK landline phones. There are about a million different possible uses for this sort of technology, not least if they bring out an API to let others innovate with web-initiated calling.
Check it out at www.jajah.com — it’s sure to be a mover. It looks exceedingly simple to use. I’ve signed up. It’s a bit late to try calling anyone at the moment though. So I’ll play tomorrow.
