Lewisham Council wins award for MMS litter reporting
Link: Award for MMS Litter Reporting.
The UK’s local government body, Lewisham Council has scooped a prestigious New Statesman New Media Award in the ‘Modernising Government’ category for its fight against graffiti and fly tipping in the London council area. Since last February, residents in the council have been able to report graffiti and fly-tips with their mobile phone by sending an MMS based picture to the Love Lewisham website.
No stats on how many picture messages were sent in to the service — but 15,000 ‘enviro-crimes’ were dealt with by the service. (I’m not sure if that means 15,000 picture messages)
It’s a nifty service — you take a picture of an enviro-crime… send it to the council, then you can check back on the Love Lewisham website to check that the council have sorted it. Nice!
