Live Mobile Operator Rankings on SMS Text News

As I walk around London and meet with a whole range of diverse individuals, my views and opinions of the UK’s network operators chop and change all the time.

For example, I walk past a ’12p a minute’ advert for T-Mobile’s PAYG customers and that really winds me up. My view of T-Mobile changes accordingly.

Then I walk past an Orange advert for their unlimited text messaging deal and I think, ‘Hmm, smart.’ My opinion on Orange raises.

Then I get a call from Tamara at eModeration (as happened last night) who tells me she tried using her Orange data card in Wales last weekend — and it was nothing short of total rubbish. Uh oh. My opinion changes.

I thought it would be cool to try tacking my opinion on a daily basis — and possibly yours.

So I’ve built a form and each night I’m going to fill in an honest ranking of each operator. Yes it’s totally subjective. I thought it would be cool to try.

I have programmed the server to mail me every evening to remind me to fill in the rankings.

You’ll see them on the right of the SMS Text News homepage.

The stats that you see in the image are from when I was testing it earlier, so I’m off to reset it all to zero.

If you’d like to participate in adding your ranking every evening (or whenever the mood takes you), let me know by email (ewan@smstextnews.com) and I’ll get the server to email the ranking form link every evening too. I think you should have to live in the UK in order to participate though — that’s only fair, right?

The main figure indicates the current average ranking out of 10 for the operator for all votes cast in the last 24 hours.

The ‘change’ figure is my attempt at a nifty stock-market ticker thing to let me know the change (plus or minus) against the operator’s score 2 days ago.
