Mark's list of Windows Mobile/750v woes
SMS Text News reader, Mark, also of iTAGG, saw colleague Steve’s note earlier about the Windows Mobile Treo 750v which just doesn’t seem to be popular at all….
add me to the list, under ‘frustrated’!
Prizes will be awarded for explaining why:– when the number I call is engaged, WHY does the loudspeaker automatically come on, to broadcast the fact that the number I’m calling is engaged?!
– I store all kinds of data in the addressbook, to search at a later date for various passwords, website details & other information that cant easily be categorised. WHY oh WHY does the device:
– break apart URLs at the . separators & to try make them into first & last names if I try & store them in the ‘name’ field
– refuse to locate many of my contacts EVEN THOUGH the word I’m searching for is definitely somewhere in the ‘name’ field, but possibly in brackets.
– force me to search EITHER the contact or the company field ?!?!
– MANGLE my text when I type into the contact ‘notes’ area. My company url is www.gu-id.co.uk – try typing that & see what happens!!! (MS turns it into “gu I’d .co.uk” )
– WHY can I never go more than 1 day without having to fully recharge the battery?
– WHY is the camera so awful?
– WHY does the device take up to 5 seconds to respond to a keypress for certain applications?
– WHY do I get the sync error saying “Attention needed: There was a sync error. Next time you synchronise you will lose all data since your last successful synchronisation” ?!?!?!? Who would write code to even possibly do such a thing?!
– WHY does the keypad light up at random, and not according to ambient light!!?!
– WHY does the default IE web browser come with no javascript support?!?
– WHY can I buy a 2GB expansion card to put movies on, but then not be able to watch any because the proccessor is unable to play the frames fast enough??!
Here’s the real biggie –
WHY, oh WHY do I have to try & move ‘forward’ from my old Psion series 5 which performed faultlessly & intuitively for about 10 years only to find that this plastic text-messager (yes, it CAN do that) is the ‘FUTURE’ ?!?!
well, sorry for the rant guys but I feel a lot better now 😉 Ewan – you were SOOOO right when you tried to point this out not so long ago!!
cheers
Mark
Nice one Mark. It’s just a total shame isn’t it? I really do want Windows Mobile devices to be brilliant, but these day to day niggles really begin to wind me up more and more. It’s not good when you can tell the time during the day by the amount of battery power you’ve got left. 😉
You know it’s still 10am when there’s a full charge icon. You know it’s going on 7pm when the battery is about to die.
Soon,… sometime soon, a manufacturer somewhere will create a device (perhaps with some customised Windows Mobile OS?) that solves all these niggles and is actually a pleasure to use day-to-day.
