mBlox clients' run up £14k ICSTIS fines

mBlox fined over misleading spam | The Register .
Alex pointed this one out to me — I missed it earlier:
The premium rate phoneline regulator – Icstis – made two separate rulings against mBlox this week and fined the transaction network firm a total of £14,000.
This time it’s mBlox on the block — the first ruling was for their client, Stealthnet, who, Icstis ruled, published misleading material relating to their adult services — particularly the word ‘free’.
The other ruling was for Carphone Warehouse? Carphone Warehouse? Geez. You’d think they’d have got their mobile marketing practices in order, eh? It seems they sent unsolicited messages regarding winning a PS2 or iPod (complete with misleading pricing information) and it was impossible for customers to unsubscribe. So bread and butter mobile marketing best practice being completely ignored. This really isn’t difficult to grasp.
So the key point here is that mBlox itself hasn’t done anything wrong per se. In fact, Ariela Freed (their Marketing Manager) told The Register that they’ll (rightly) get refunded by their clients.
I am delighted to see that Icstis is taking such action.
