Miss World 2006 featuring SMS voting
I asked if I could do a piece on Miss World and Challenge TV kindly sent me the overview. I trust you have been glued to Challenge TV‘s unrivalled coverage of the Miss World extravaganza? (They’re broadcasting the live Warsaw final on September 30th at 7pm.)
They’re using mobile voting, you see.
Last year, Miss World accounted for what was thought to be the largest text vote in the world apparently. No doubt American Idol beat them on aggregate traffic — but for a single event, Miss World has to be right up there.
I think it’s particularly good to see the medium of mobile being used for voting right around the world — from England to Singapore to France to New Zealand to Tahiti. You know what, I’ll need to check and see if there’s a Miss Tahiti.
I checked. There is. It’s Miss Vainui Simon.
The text voting has been going on all week in the UK via the Challenge TV ‘Vote for Me’ programmes shown at 2.30pm and 8pm daily. If you haven’t caught them, don’t panic: You can still use your phone to have your say on your favourite if you tune in tonight at 8pm. You owe it to the mobile industry to check it out and see how they’re applying mobile technology for the event.
(And if you’ve got appointments already tonight, you might want to use your mobile to get Sky+ to record it.)
I always thought there was a "Miss UK" who represented the United Kingdom. Not a bit of it. We’ve sent four beauties — speaking of which: Left to right in the picture we have Miss Scotland Nicola McClean, Miss Northern
Ireland Catherine Milligan, Miss Wales Sarah Fleming, Miss England
Eleanor Glynn.
Good luck to ’em all. I’ll be voting!
