Mobile Blogging Slightly Possible
As per Ewan’s post earlier, I’m posting this using the Telewaving application on my Nokia N95. I have a few bluetooth keyboards lying around, but I’m also using the phone’s T9 keypad, as well. The Telewaving application is free, though limited to only posting text. Graphics and other multimedia are possible for a $10 license fee. I don’t know that I’m prepared to spend money on this app just yet.
In regards to Ewan’s requirements earlier, this particular application fails miserably. You can enter text in fields either right or down, and I’m not sure of the difference. Apparently I can manually add formatting tags and whatnot, though there are no shortcuts to easily add the opening or closing tags. Hence, you could imagine how painful that hyperlink above was to enter. There is also nothing in regards to categories or tags, nor is there any way to access existing content, published or not. You are able to save a post locally on yous phone, for later publishing, but there is no support for posting a post without publishing it. | This block of text is added with the ‘right’ setting. I’m anxious to see how it turns out. For WordPress users interested in performing admin functions such as editing existing posts, approving comments, and the like, I would suggest looking into the Wphone plugin. I have it active on Symbian-Guru.com, and it allows me to login via any S60v3 device (or an iPhone) and perform those functions. You can also obviously use that to compose a post, though obviously that would require a data connection, whereas with this Telewaving application, it is possible to compose posts offline.
For the time being, I would suggest a mix of both applications for WordPress users. Also keep in mind that this is the first version of this application, and hopefully they will continue to develop it into a solid offering. |
