Mobile TV Chipmaker Gets More Funding

2008-02-04_2032
Mobile TV chipmaker MediaPhy has received another round of funding, this time totaling up to $7 million. The San Jose, CA based chipmaker focuses on building chips that support multiple mobile TV standards around the globe. The company’s flagship chip, the MP2001 Soloâ„¢ Series supports DVB-T, DVB-H, ISDB-T, T-DMB, and DAB standards.

With the global mobile TV market growing, the ability for devices to have a single chip that is capable of accessing multiple TV standards is a big benefit. The only notable broadcasting technology that’s missing from the chip is Qualcomm’s MediaFLO, which is currently in use in the United States, specifically by Verizon Wireless, and soon by AT&T.

Congrats to the MediaPhy team, we’re anxious to see this market grow.
