Ah this is an interesting one indeed. I’m going to check it out and give it a go. It’s just been launched today.

The service enables users to upload video clips that have been filmed using a mobile phone to www.moblr.com where they can be shared with friends, family and the Moblr community. Moblr means that users are no longer tied to their PCs to watch video – videos can be accessed and shared anywhere, anytime and for free from a mobile phone.

With video cameras as standard on most mobile phones (Nokia is now the number one camera manufacturer in the world), more and more people are capturing ‘You’ve Been Framed’ type clips on their phones. However, most find it too expensive to send them to their friends via MMS. With Moblr, users can simply upload the clip to the Moblr site from their 3G phone and Moblr will forward a SMS message to alert their friends and family that the clip is available to view.

‘It’s the immediacy of the service that our users like,” says Jérome Leger, Commercial Director and Co-Founder, Moblr. ‘They can be walking down the street one minute, see a celebrity or a funny scene, film it and within seconds publish it online for others to view. They even have the ability to break the news before the news breaks!”

And if you were wondering how it works:

Upload: A video shot using a mobile phone can easily be published on the Moblr site. Users can either upload the clip directly from their mobile phone or send the clip by MMS or email. The clip can be named and tagged before it goes public so others can search for content easily.

I reckon I’ll try it out by sending a clip via email — via ShoZu. In fact Moblr should have a chat to sort out ShoZu support for their users.

This was a key point for me:

Viewing: All videos can be accessed for free from users’ mobile phones or PCs. Most recently uploaded videos are posted on Moblr’s home page and users can search all videos by category and tag.

Formats: Nearly all video formats are allowed. (There is a file size restriction as the videos are intended for mobile viewing.) Moblr automatically converts files into a format that is compatible with most mobile phones and PCs. This means that videos can be passed from one mobile phone to another and from a PC to a mobile phone without any problems.

Well I’ll definitely give it a go!
