More information on 'umobile', the Philippines equivalent of Blyk
I managed to find even more information on this ad-funded MVNO that’s launching in the Philippines (that I posted on earlier).
The service is called “Umobile” and is targeting the 15 to 35 age bracket or the ‘youth and yuppies’ sector, reports the Philippines Sun Star. This bracket represents 45% of the 89 million Philippines population and, of course, will be ad-funded.
They’re aiming for 100,000 users by the end of 2008 and they’re only going to accept 10,000 new subscribers per month.
Five key advertisers are expected to sign up within a few days and the Sales Director, Noli Romualdez, reckons they will go live with 10. Very similar to Blyk, this. I wonder how much examination they did of the Blyk model before going live?
