Motorola SLVR L7 arse

I left the Motorola SLVR L7 in the bag for over 24 hours.  Being a slight technical geek I do enjoy ripping the boxes open and playing with shiny new technology.  However I had lots to do last night so I didn’t get the opportunity.

I was positively salivating at the prospect of unpacking the L7 and connecting it up to my Apple and watching iSync fly.  I specifically purchased the L7 and not the L6 because I wanted iSync compatibility.  According to the Apple site, the L7 should sync by bluetooth and also USB.  Who uses USB in this day and age though? 😉

Every Sony Ericsson I’ve ever put in the vicinity of the Apple has synched perfectly and immediately.  The L7 was a trauma from the get go.

When the Apple was trying to recognise it via Bluetooth nothing happened until I switched the ‘Find Me’ option on.  This only stays active for 60 seconds.  Total arse.  Then the phone locked up while the Bluetooth handshaking took place.  Totally locked up for about 15 seconds.  Then the whole thing failed.

What an absolute crapper.  It just goes to show that no amount of PR spin will get your brand out of the hole when the arse of the device doesn’t do as expected.  Motorola made stuff that folk used in Space!  Surely they can get the bluetooth syncing working?

Well, I went and got my brother’s RAZR.  That worked perfectly first time.

Sooooooo it looks like I’ve got some sort of dud.  That, orrrrrr it needs a full charge.  Orrrrrrr the handset is nailed.  Orrrrrrrrrrr something else.  How annoying.  Probably user-failure on my part.

In other news: I got the NEC i-mode phone (the £49.95 special from o2) out of its box too.  I realised, as I hunted for the bluetooth option, that there was a reason why this phone was as-cheap-as-chips: No bluetooth. 

However the i-mode is a bit special.  It’s the first time I’ve managed to use a UK i-mode service and I’m rather impressed with it all.
