Nimbuzz knocks back 1 million downloads from Nokia's Ovi Store

Congratulations to the team at Nimbuzz who are consistently delivering a fantastic integrated IM and VOIP experience across a huge number of platforms.

The Nimbuzz press release published yesterday announces that they’ve passed the 1 million download mark across 180 countries via Nokia’s Ovi Store.

These kinds of press releases are excellent news for Nokia in the run up to Mobile World Congress. It was around this time last year that the Nokia High Command got up on stage and announced the Ovi Store to a rather cynical audience. Nokia is finally getting there – a million downloads of just one application is really good!

Here’s the founder of Nimbuzz on the news:

Evert-Jaap Lugt, founder & CEO of Nimbuzz commented: “We are delighted with the success we have seen from Ovi Store by Nokia, which helps us reach 40% of the global handset market in more than 180 countries. It is a great reward for the efforts we have made to offer our mass market application on both Nokia smart phones and feature phones, Making Nimbuzz available to the global Ovi Store audience has paid off tremendously.”

Indeed — the Ovi Store now accounts for 6% of Nimbuzz’s 15 million users.

Onwards and upwards! You can download Nimbuzz via the Ovi Store here.
