Nokia Working With Carriers In The US Finally
Here’s an interesting article from Reuters today with a quote from Nokia’s president of North America’s business, Mark Louison. Apparently, the Finnish behemoth intends to launch up to a dozen new handsets this year, customised for the U.S. carriers. They launched three new handsets with carriers in the U.S. in 2007, so they’re facing a pretty substantial increase.
From the interview with Louison, there’ll be a few in the first half of 2008, with the bulk of it coming down in the 2nd half, which conveniently contains back to school and christmas, arguably the two biggest times of the year for cellphones. Obviously AT&T and T-Mobile are the biggest customers in the U.S., but Louison also said that there would be a few models for Verizon and Sprint, both of whom operate CDMA networks, a technology that Nokia swore off a few years ago.
It’s definitely shaping up to be a really interesting year in the U.S. mobile industry, with rumors of the 2nd gen iPhone coming this year, as well. I’m most certainly on the edge of my seat, are you?
