Omego launch mobile for kids

If Fisher-Price did mobiles, I’d imagine it’d look like this, and probably be called ‘My First Mobile’. But they don’t – which has left Omego to fill a gap in the market.

The handset is free on an 18-month contract, and costs £15 a month. Parents can set 40 “safe” numbers via a website, so their kids can’t go phoning anyone not on the safe list (useful when parents fall out and mum wants to stop little Johnny phoning his dad just to spite him).

The Omego also has some educational games pre-installed, GPRS facilities, and runs on Toucan mobile – who in turn use T-Mobile’s network.

Omego research reveals that 28 per cent of parents know less than half of their children’s friends, while 45 per cent would like to know more about mobile phones. It’s also possible that 100% of kids said they’d get bullied in the school playground if they were given this as a mobile as it’s not the latest all-singing all-dancing ‘cool’ handset. Allegedly 🙂

Incidently, you’ll be pleased to know that judging by the date on the screen in the picture, the Omego also supports time travel. I’ll take back what I said about wanting an iPhone – this is the device for me..
