'Oooh really, Vodafone? An the iPhone? Can I get one?'
I got the news in from Vodafone about their 10-country Apple iPhone deal this morning at about 8am. I took one look at the email on the Blackberry and dropped everything I was doing to get the news up and out to the planet.
More and more I find myself a semi-slave to the SMS Text News readers. I didn’t want to wait until 11 or 12 o’clock when I was due to do a lot of blogging — particularly because I know there are quite a lot of analysts and developers making commercial decisions related to Apple based on up to date information from (in part) SMS Text News coverage.
I was in mid conversation with my other half and I actually interrupted her to say, words to the effect, “Sorry, I, er, Vodafone’s going live with iPhone in 10 countries and I need to get this out!”
She understands, thankfully. But she didn’t turn around and walk out the room to leave me to my news spreadin’ joy. No. She stopped and sat down thoughtfully before saying, “So that means I could get an iPhone?”
For some reason — and I’m keen to understand the mechanisms that led her to this viewpoint — the fact that Vodafone were officially moving to offer the iPhone in some of their territories, seemed to validate the device in her mind.
“Well, you can have an iPhone on Vodafone UK right now if you want,” I said, thinking of the various unlocked iPhones scattered around the SMS Text News office.
“Yes, but it’s not the same!”
“Well, you could get one on o2?” I prompted.
“What about email?” she asked. She uses Good Mobile Messaging with Exchange religiously.
As I authored the post she did a mental transformation from the Nokia E61 to the iPhone. I’ll wait ’til the end of the day and see if she’s still keen. It’s not often that girls get into technology like this.
