Panasonic's Link to Cell cures 'hot phone' syndrome

You know when you’ve been talking to someone non-stop for an hour or so on your mobile and it’s started to a) irradiate your head and b) get really, really annoyingly hot?

Well, here’s a wicked solution: Link to Cell by Panasonic.

They’ve just launched the latest version — the KX-TH1211 — it’s essentially a base station and wireless DECT handset, BUT it includes Bluetooth.

Here’s the concept. You get home, you plug your handset into it’s charger (ideally located near the Panasonic device). Both devices link by Bluetooth.

So now, when you want to phone someone whilst you’re at home, you can choose to use your Panasonic ‘home phone’ to make the calls, via your mobile. Love it.

This is a brilliant piece of technology. It solves three real life issues for me:

1. Irradiated head. I don’t like talking too much on my phone(s) as I do get headaches after a while.
2. Hot battery / dead battery. Different phones have different characteristics — but ALL of them get hot after a while.
3. Identification. I call people on my mobile. When you call on the landline and you leave a missed call, it’s ultra annoying when the person calls you back at your home number, only to miss you because you’re out and on your mobile.

Here’s the gossip from Panasonic:

We recognize that people value their cell phones as a key point of communication, but using it at home is often inconvenient, especially when they reach dead spots with no coverage,” said Bill Birnie, Marketing Director, Communications Solutions Group, Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company. “Perfect for the millions of consumers who have eliminated their landline, Link to Cell provides a sleek, yet comfortable handset and a base that can be placed where cell coverage in the home is strongest. Using Bluetooth to connect the cell phone to the base, Link to Cell is a solution that connects mobile and home technologies, bringing out the best features in both.”

I’ve emailed Panasonic to see if I can get one to check out.

I couldn’t find a photo of the new TH1211, so here’s a picture of one of the older models to give you an idea:
