Phone masts in UK Churches 'relay porn' and face possible ban
This is the second day on the trot that I’ve found a mobile related article in the Telegraph worth recording for posterity.
Here we go…

The Church of England is facing an embarrassing test case over whether mobile phone masts on steeples are illegal because they can relay pornography.
The church’s highest court is to hear an appeal after a diocesan judge ruled that churches were “wrong in law” to “facilitate the transmission of pornography, even in a slight or modest way”.
Hmmm. Wrong in law to facilitate the transmission of pornography?
I mean, that’s a fair point, I can see their perspective, but really…. that’s not the ONLY reason that people use mobile phones.
However, critics said mobile phones can now transmit dangerously obscene internet images and the church should dissociate itself from such technology, especially after the General Synod condemned media exploitation last month.
Well that’s a load of rubbish isn’t it? That’s no arguing position. If that’s the status then the Church shouldn’t allow computers within 500m of any of their venues. The General Synod should be releasing press releases written in chalk on a blackboard outside their office…. there should be no internet connection WHATSOEVER allowed anywhere near a Church.
What’s more, there should be no local newspaper shops allowed within a 500m radius of any church, as those shops may well be used to transmit dangerously obsence images via Penthouse and Playboy magazines…
While we’re at it, shouldn’t all weddings be banned in Churches, because, well, that kissing-of-the-bride part is a possible prelude to a whole load of unsavory, obscene activities…
