SMS.ac cease-and-desist's Russel Beattie
I was having a look at this story on RCR Wireless News when I saw a name that I recognised: Russell Beattie. RCR reports that Russell allegedly described SMS.ac as a "total scam" in a blog posting. He got the whole cease-and-desist treatment from SMS.ac’s legal representatives (documented here).
For my own perspective, I felt SMS.ac. never lived up to its potential in the early days. I really liked the the concept they pitched. I didn’t react very well to their points emails ("Earn 50 points when you update your personal profile"). I’d just sooner rather pay a few quid up front for a service like www.sms4windows.com. However I can see that this may well appeal to a heck of a lot of young people. I used to be young once you see. I need to get used to being old and boring. 😉
For the first time in years I thought I’d login and have a look around www.sms.ac. My old username still worked! They’ve definitely brought the service on a lot in recent years — lots of interactive community elements. I’m going to take a closer look later on.
