Soul Candi launch music service with ROK

Independent South African record label and music distributor Soul Candi have teamed up with ROK Radio to launch a subscription-based on-demand music service.

Set to launch across  South African mobile operators Vodacom, MTN and CellC in August, Soul Candi will initially offer 5 hours of selected music every week, hosted and mixed by some of the countries leading DJ’s and will be charged at R10.00 per week (approximately £1.00 or USD $2.00 per week).  Listeners will also get the ability to purchase individual tracks, at a cost yet to be announced.

“Mobile entertainment, whether it be TV or music, demands higher levels of interaction than traditional TV or radio broadcasts,” said Harael Salkow of Soul Candi, “and that’s why we’ve developed this on-demand music for mobiles service with ROK – to give the subscriber what they want, when they want it.”

Commenting on the deal, Laurence Alexander, CEO of ROK Entertainment Group added: “We’re seeing the mobile consumer being prepared to pay a premium to receive instantly engaging and relevant entertainment, on-demand and we’re delighted to be working with Soul Candi on deploying this service right across South Africa.”
