Symbian giving FREE Nokia 5800 to iPhone developers TODAY

If you’re an iPhone Developer and you’ve always wanted to try developing on Symbian, BUT you don’t have an $800 handset to test on… help is at hand…

The first 100 developers to attend today’s Symbian Hackathon at Jillians Bar (across from the Moscone Center) in San Francisco today get a free Nokia 5800.

A gorgeous handset.

That’s right. Symbian have done a Google. They’re giving away handsets to developers — but they’re doing so in a very smart manner. They’ve organised a hackathon today, after the Apple keynote speech. But the biggest issue with a hackathon, for your average iPhone developer? No handset to test on.

Until today, that is. Now’s your chance.

Here are the details I got from the invitation, open to all iPhone developers (and, I imagine, anyone else interested in checking-out Symbian):

Schedule:
1-4 pm Hack-A-Thon: burgers, $$, free phones
5-7 pm Happy Hour: drinks, munchies, pool, wii

Join us at Jillian’s
101 4th St # 170

If you’re in the area and you’re interested in learning more about developing on Symbian, I strongly recommend you go along, meet the chaps (say you’re looking for Maurice, their Community Manager — and say I sent you, if you’re looking for a friendly face) and get yourself a free device to play with.

Please do pass this along to any colleagues you reckon might be interested.
