T-Mobile UK's 3g data service -- "F****** fan-TASTIC"
SMS Text News reader and pure genius, Dan Lane, has, through a comedy of annoying rules and regulations, been unable to use the phone line in his new apartment. TalkTalk (as signed-up by the previous tenant) won’t unlock the line so that BT can install super-fast-ADSL.
He’s been forced to get a new line installed. That comes on Friday.
Meantime, though, he’s been living in this new place for about 2 weeks.
How has he been connecting to the internet? Well, using T-Mobile’s web ‘n walk….
… via his E61….
… via Bluetooth on his MacBook!
Get in! Wow!
It’s been working very nicely — he’s networked his girlfriend so both of them are able to access the internet through the E61. It’s really exciting to hear of people actually giving their technology a good work out.
So far he’s clocked up 916mb of data which, he calculates, would have cost him at least £3,664 (at 4 quid a meg) if he was using his Orange connection (which he’s just switched to PAYG). Obviously since he’s on T-Mobile, the total cost is £7.50 a month. Heh. Should he go over the 1gig fair-use limit, I reckon they’ll turn a blind eye. As long as he’s not running up gigs of data.
It’s worth noting that Dan and his girlfriend aren’t just doing namby-pamby browsing-of-a-web-page. Both of them work online all day and have really been putting huge demands on the internet connection. Wicked!
