Taptu's iPhone App is 'baked' and ready to rock
The ‘Taptu iPhone app is baked’ is the subject of the email I got from the ever delightful Vero Pepperrell, the Canadian-in-London that everyone knows and loves.
If you haven’t come across Taptu, it’s quite simply, really, really smart mobile search.
A few years back, the team sat down and decided to fix mobile search, properly. Instead of giving you an array of semi-rubbish results and letting you sift through them like you might do on a desktop, they recognised that the mobile use case is entirely different.
It’s incredibly annoying to have to click, click, click on a mobile device, irrespective what type. There’s a cost in terms of time and battery (assuming you’re on an unlimited data plan) to every single tap or click.
So they’ve tried really hard to get it right first time. A total godsend for any mobile user. (I still haven’t got over typing in ‘cinema times‘ on a customised Yahoo Mobile search page and finding the Times Cinema, Milwaukee as the first link.)
Take a bit of time out when you can today and download the iPhone app and give it a whirl. You can download the (free) app from the iTunes store via this direct link.
Here’s a screenshot of an image search for Obama:
Do a search for the band, The Killers and you get some immediately sensible results (in a scrolly wheely UI):
Type in ‘CNN’ and guess what? Yup, you get a little screenshot and the right result first-time:
Nice work Taptu!
