.tel domain name extension coming soon
Link: The Mobile Technology Weblog: ICANN Approves .tel Domain.
ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers has approved the creation of a new Top Level Domain (TLD) for use on the Internet – .tel. The new domain name is aimed primarily at telecoms providers.
This one that Tom published earlier today is an interesting one. First of all, it’s much, much better than .mob. I can’t be doing with .mob. I really reacted negatively to that.
Second, I am encouraged at the possibility of a unified method of connecting to someone. Have a read of Tom’s post — particularly about the ‘innovative DNS’ points. You never know, soon you might be able to call ewanmacleod.tel instead of having to dial that array of random digits we call a phone number.
Scrub that, I’ll have ewan.tel instead! That would be cool.
