Tesco customers buying tons of Somin's Land Rover S1 handsets

The Daily Mail today carried a pleasing bit of news about Somin’s new Land Rover S1 handset (as spotted by dabr genius, David Carrington).

According to the article, the next generation Land Rover S1 is being retailed exclusive by Tesco online and in their stores. Tesco, if you’re not aware, is the UK’s behemoth supermarket chain. Think Wal-Mart.

Well it turns out that Tesco’s customer base are loving the device. It only went on sale last week and it’s already outselling Tesco’s most popular brands.

I’m not surprised.

The Land Rover S1 is one of those handsets that — if you put it in front of it’s target audience — will be bought on sight. It’s a dream handset if you’re into outdoor life, you’re a builder (or similar) or if you keep on dropping your existing phone and having to buy another one.

The Somin tough phone range are more or less indestructible (you can see former MIR contributor Dan Lane bashing one of the Sonim’s with a mallet here and here).

The handsets all come with a no-nonsense 3-year unconditional warranty and you can pick one up for £250.

I’ll need to get one to match my Range Rover.
