Text A Bully launched at Gordano School, Portishead

Another good example — I’ve blogged quite a few similar services recently and I’m really pleased to see more. I wonder if this sort of service shouldn’t be launched nationwide to all schools? Perhaps it’s best to keep it and control it locally per district or per school?

Sixth Former Natalie Chapman decided to set-up the facility for her school after witnessing some bullying going on. All power to her! Well done for going and making it happen.

A NEW telephone hotline to report bullying at a school has been launched in Portishead.

The Text the Bully scheme was officially switched on at Gordano School on Thursday.

The scheme encourages students to report cases of bullying anonymously by texting their message to a special bully line – a mobile phone donated to the school by Argos stores in Wyndham Way.

Now, the ONLY problem I have here is that text messages are received on a mobile phone. I think it’s really good of Argos to donate a handset. I hope that they also donated a ton of credit to keep the service going too. It’s a brilliant method of getting the Text A Bully service up and running quickly.

However, after a while, it’s a total arse typing long messages of support on a handset keyboard. I wonder if an enterprising mobile software developer might be able to knock up a good hotmail-style SMS inbox that Natalie and her colleagues could use to receive and reply to text messages with?

In fact, I reckon something like the iTagg sms.ec service might be exactly what she needs.
